The QVS Log Collector aids the process of gathering log files from all services in a QlikView Server environment. This article will describe how to use it and what the tool does.

Conformity

This tool currently supports the following versions of QlikView:
QlikView Server 10 IR or later
QlikView Server 11 IR or later
Requirements

Administrative privileges or elevated privileges (if under UAC)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
If remote services are configured in QlikView;
Remote registry access on the machine of those services
Remote C$ share access on the machine of those services
Note: The tool is provided as-is and is not covered by any support or maintenance agreements.

How the tool works

The QVS Log Collector targets the QlikView Publisher Repository (QVPR) to read data about configuration and log file locations. It will then use this information to try and collect the log files from all referenced services, between two date intervals decided by the user.

The tool uses read only operations on the QVPR database (QlikView Publisher Repository) and the QlikView environment, except when it creates the zip archive.
Usage

Run the tool by double-clicking it (or right-clicking and selecting "Run as Administrator" if UAC is activated in Windows).
QVS Log Collector will try and locate any QVPR located in default locations at startup, and automatically enter the path in the field QVPR location.
To select the location where the resulting zip archive gets created, change the path in the field Output directory. This value will default to the application data folder for the current logged in profile.
Verify the QVPR location and output directory and press the Scan button.
Once the QVPR is scanned you can collect log files. Select a From and To date in the date-time pickers for the interval.
Click Collect log files.
When the tool is done, a window will ask you if you want to open the output directory.
In the zip archive, next to the log files, there will also be a log file containing the full content of the Log console from the main window.
Send the whole zip archive to your QlikView Support Technician.
Extras

To see the log console, during any operation, got to the Log console tab. You can also see the last reported status in the bottom toolbar status field of the tools main window.
Use the About QVPR button to see the upgrade history of the QVPR database. This is the content of the about.xml file in the database.
Use the Log skipped file checkbox if you want to log what files are excluded from the collection. Note: This will significantly increase the time it takes to collect the log files.
To read the documentation, click the Help option in the About menu.
To change settings, like what service log files to collect, click the Settings option in the File menu. Note: It's not recommended to change these settings without prior request from a QlikView Support Technician.
